Members of the Congress party including party President Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary.

Rahul Gandhi said the untimely demise of his father left deep void in his life. “Rajiv Gandhi was a kind, gentle and affectionate man whose untimely death left a deep void in my life. I remember the times we had together and the many birthdays we were lucky to celebrate with him when he was alive. He is greatly missed, but his memory lives on,” he tweeted.


The Congress also paid tribute to former Karnataka Chief Minister D Devaraj Urs on his birth anniversary. D. Devaraj Urs served two separate terms as Chief Minister of Karnataka and he won the elections consecutively for a span of 28 years. He was repeatedly elected to the Legislative Assembly from Hunsur constituency between 1952 and 1980.

He is known as one of the great social reformers of Karnataka. He is remembered as the man who gave a voice to the oppressed.
