Rahul Gandhi visits Lalu Yadav at his hospital room in AIIMS, Delhi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi called on ailing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav at his room in the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Monday, April 30, and wished him speedy recovery.

RJD sources told National Herald that Rahul inquired about Lalu's health and the ongoing treatment in detail. Lalu is suffering from various ailments, including kidney and heart diseases. Rahul stayed with Lalu for more than 30 minutes, sources said.

During the conversation between two leaders, politics was naturally discussed but a long discussion was avoided, sources who were in the know of the meeting said.

A day after the Congress party’s successful Jan Aakrosh rally, Rahul's meeting with Lalu signifies the personal bonding between two leaders and bonhomie between two main opposition forces, said an analyst.

However, there is growing concern in RJD about Lalu's health. “Despite his condition not improving, the AIIMS administration has prepared a report stating that his health is alright,'' alleged Sanjay Yadav, political advisor to Lalu’s son, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar assembly Tejashwi Yadav.

Ranchi Hight Court had asked for a report from AIIMS before delivering a judgement on his bail application. The next hearing on Lalu’s bail plea is scheduled for June 4. Lalu's lawyers have applied for the bail on the health grounds.

RJD insiders claim that the CBI is trying its best to influence the medical report so that Lalu couldn’t prolong his stay at AIIMS, where various political leaders could meet him in person easily. If denied bail on health grounds, Lalu will be moved to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranch after June 4.

Earlier, Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha and chief of NDA ally RLSP had also met with Lalu at AIIMS.
