Agitated over beating of north Indians in Gujarat, the Congress Party organised a day-long dharna at Lahurabeer in Varanasi on Tuesday, October 9 and declared that they would soon launch Satyagraha if Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t speak against the “state sponsored attacks” and take action against Vijay Rupani government.

Ajay Rai, a Congress leader who had lost against Modi in Varanasi in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, led the protest and demanded immediate suspension of Rupani government in Gujarat.

“Over 10,000 people of Varanasi and adjoining districts have escaped from Gujarat in last three days and returned home in fear of being killed in Modi’s Gujarat. This is a return gift of Modi to those who voted him and made PM of the country”, said Rai.

Meanwhile, breaking the myth created by Modi that he is a “son of Varanasi” and invited there by “Mother Ganga”, protests have started against him on a large scale in his own Parliamentary constituency. Those migrant workers who have run away from Gujarat and returned to Varanasi, have been holding dharna in different localities.

Mayawati, Bahujan Samaj Party President said, “Those who had made Modi PM are traumatized in Gujarat. We condemn the incident of attacks on the people of UP and Bihar in his state.”

PM Modi has claimed in his public meetings that he is a "son of Varanasi". He would say during 2014 election that mother Ganga had called him to Varanasi.

Sharing her experience in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Suneeta Devi, a resident of Varanasi said, “The Gujarati people came to our house four days ago and declared that they would kill us if we didn’t leave the state within two hours. The same people attacked us when we were rushing to railway station to leave the state. We ran back to our homes to save ourselves. Then again they came and thrashed us. We were ready to leave Gujarat. But they were not ready to let us leave their state without first hurting us. We have somehow returned back to Varanasi and want Modi to go back to Gujarat.”
