In an attempt to highlight pitfalls of the farm laws enacted by the Modi government and to support the ongoing farmers’ agitation, the Congress on Tuesday released a booklet titled ‘Kheti Ka Khoon’.

Explaining how the Modi government destroyed agriculture in the last six years, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi while releasing the booklet reiterated that there was no other way except repealing the laws to end the deadlock.

Nine rounds of talks held between the Modi government and the farmers’ unions so far have failed to yield any result.

Accusing the government of “destroying” Indian agriculture by enacting the three farm laws, Rahul Gandhi said, “There is a tragedy unfolding today in the country; the government wants to ignore the issue and misinform the country. I am not going to speak about farmers alone as it is only part of the tragedy. It is important for youngsters. This is not about the present but about your future”.

Terming the farm laws as an “assault on farmers and the middle class” Rahul Gandhi said that if the middle class can buy rice and wheat at a relatively cheap price, it was only because of the APMC Act which is being destroyed by the Modi government.

He alleged that the Modi government wants to hand over the agriculture sector to four-five people. “Today, every industry is under the monopoly of three to five people, be it airport, telecom, or power. The Modi government wants to give the agriculture sector as well to those four to five industrialists”.

Saying that the news farm laws were not alone liable for the destruction of the agriculture sector, he said that the Modi government had systematically destroyed it.

Lending his support to the ongoing farmers’ protests, Rahul asked, “Why are farmers of Punjab and Haryana standing? They are patriots of this country who are protecting the livelihood of 60 percent of this country. I support them 100 per cent. I go further, every single Indian should support them because they are fighting for us, not themselves”.

On BJP chief JP Nadda’s accusation that the Congress leader was “provoking and misleading” the farmers, Rahul said it was an “attempted distraction” by the saffron party.

“Farmers know the reality. All farmers know what Rahul Gandhi does. I have a clean character, I am not scared, they can’t touch me,” he said.
