22 more test positive in West Bengal, total cases rise to 162
At least 22 people tested positive for COVID-19 in different parts of West Bengal in the last 24 hours, Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said on Friday.
Four persons were discharged after recovering from the disease during the period.
Taking the fresh cases into account, the number of active COVID-19 patients in the state rose to 162, Sinha said.
According to the state health department, West Bengal has reported 210 COVID-19 cases so far.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, however, put the figure at 251 on its website.
On-third COVID-19 patients in Noida cured
Thirty-three of the 92 coronavirus patients in Gautam Buddh Nagar are cured and discharged from hospital, a number which has brought some cheer to the district which is among the worst affected in Uttar Pradesh.
This 35 per cent recovery rate is better than the 13 per cent recorded at the national level. Union Health Ministry on Friday morning said there are 13,387 positive cases in the country and 1,748 people have been cured.
Statistics for Uttar Pradesh show that about 9 per cent of the total 805 infected people till Thursday night have recovered from COVID-19.
Gautam Buddh Nagar near Delhi had emerged as a major hotspot for the virus in March and the district also saw the shunting of some top officials, including the district magistrate and the chief medical officer, over the handling of the situation.

The 2.5 square kilometre area is densely packed with over 50,000 population. The number of positive Corona cases in this area is also very high. So to curb the spread of the virus, we have taken this decision. The entire area comes under the jurisdiction of a single police station of BhaktiNagar," added Jha.

Coronavirus cases in Haryana rose to 221 on Friday, with Nuh and Panchkula districts reporting fresh cases.
While worst-hit Nuh reported five cases, Panchkula, which has seen a surge after nine members of a family earlier tested positive, reported two more cases, according to the state's health department bulletin.

Karnataka sees record single day rise, tally reaches 353
Karnataka registered 38 COVID-19 positive cases in the past 19 hours, the highest in less than a single day, raising the state's tally to 353, an official said on Friday.

UP woman goes to get ration, gets raped
A 23-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a ration dealer who promised her free ration as per government orders.
According to reports, the woman had approached the local shopkeeper for her quota of government ration when her savings dried up but he refused to give her ration.
The woman's husband is stuck in Punjab, so she went to get free ration from the ration dealer.
After waiting for several hours, she was asked to go away.
"On Tuesday evening, the accused, Vinod, came to my house and instead of giving me the ration, he raped me," the woman told the police.
