Delhi clashes: Security assistant in Intelligence Bureau found dead

Even as the violence has subsided and an uneasy calm prevails in northeast Delhi, Police on Wednesday discovered the body of a Security Assistant in Intelligence Bureau (IB) from Chand Bagh Pulia of strife-torn area.

The deceased has been identified as Ankit Sharma, a resident of Khajuri Khas locality of northeast Delhi. Ankit Sharma is believed to have died of a bullet injury and his body bore injury marks of severe beatings too. Ankit had joined the Intelligence Bureau in 2017.

Initial investigation has revealed that the deceased had been missing since Tuesday evening. He was allegedly attacked by a group of people when he was picked up from his house. His family members asked the police to check the drain. His body was eventually found from this drain, the police said.

A senior police official said, “ “His family members told the police that on Tuesday morning, a group had started pelting stones after barging into the street where his house is located. The family members called Ankit and asked him to rescue them. He reached the street but was stopped by a group. They started beating him up and took him away,”


His father, Ravinder Sharma, is also working in the IB as head constable. The police took the body to GTB hospital for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court said Ankit’s death was extremely unfortunate. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted expressing his grief over the death of the IB officer calling it “a tragic loss of life” ;
