The result of Delhi elections has come as a shocker for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath because the BJP lost the constituencies where he addressed rallies during the hectic election campaign which stretched for over five days.

Yogi addressed rallies in Patparganj, Kirari, Mehrauli, Uttam Nagar, Saurabh Vihar, Dwarka, Tughlakabad, Vikaspuri, Rohini, Karawal Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Badarpur. In all these constituencies the candidates of AAm Aadmi Party emerged winners driving a big hole in the credibility of UP Chief Minister who claims himself to be an election winner.

In these rallies, Yogi kept the communal pot boiling by referring to Shaheen Bagh where he claimed that anti-nationals were staging the protest. He even talked about Biryani politics for which the Election Commission issued him a notice.

His election managers sent pictures of the election meetings showing a large gathering of people saying that ‘Maharaj’ (as Yogi is called in private conversation because of him being the Mahant of Gorakhnath temple) has turned the tide in favour of BJP. People are coming in hordes to listen to him, they said.

As Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister continued pouring communal vitriol, the AAP even moved the EC requesting it to bar Yogi from addressing election rallies in Delhi.

Three days before the Delhi results were announced, Yogi looked confident of BJP’s victory. Addressing a group of journalists during the recently held Defence Expo 2020 he said that his election meetings were very successful and BJP will win the majority of the seats.

The result has taken the wind out of Yogi’s sail because after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Yogi is considered the most sought after leader in election campaigns.

“Yogi magic is waning. Wherever he addressed the rally, the party has lost the election,” UPCC state president Ajay Kumar Lallu said.

In Patparganj, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Shishodiya has been declared the winner while AAP candidates Ram Singh from Badarpur, Rituraj from Kirari, Vinay Mishra from Dwarka, Naresh Baliyan from Uttam Nagar, Mahindra Yadav from Vikaspuri, Raj Kumar Dhillon from Hari Nagar, Sharad Kumar from Narela have won the election.
