Delhi University’s Buddhist Studies Department has cancelled the admission of Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya. Ankiv has tendered his resignation from the post to the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

According to a report in Indian Express, Delhi University took the decision on Wednesday after Thiruvalluvar University (TU) sent a written note to the University confirming that Baisoya’s marksheet pertaining to his graduation was fake, said source.

In the response to the application by Buddhist Department HoD KTS Sarao, who asked for verification of Baisoya’s documents, Controller of Examination, TU, B Senthilkumar wrote in a letter on November 13, “With reference to the above, it is informed that the copy of the certificate of the following candidate has been verified and found that the said certificate is not genuine. It is a fake certificate.”

“Baisoya’s admission was cancelled on November 14 as soon as the letter was received, in a meeting of the admission committee, and all authorities concerned, including the police, were informed of the same,” said a DU official. HoD of Buddhist department could not be reached for a comment.

In the meanwhile, DUSU secretary Akash Choudhary from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Friday, November 16, submitted a memorandum to the VC, calling for fresh elections.

Harendra Singh, Additional DCP (North) has confirmed receiving communication.

“He (Sarao) has written a letter to the Registrar about the cancellation of admission. A copy of this has been given to the SHO. We have written to the Registrar. If any communication is made by any authority, we may take legal action,” said Singh.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi also tweeted on the matter. Playing on the term ‘surgical strike’, Rahul said what was happening in DU was a ‘farzical strike’. Farzi in Urdu means fake.

ABVP had on Thursday suspended Baisoya from the organisation, and asked him to step down from his post. Baisoya had called allegations against him “baseless”.
