Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, July 3 said that DJs will be allowed during Kanwar Yatra only if they play bhajan and not filmy songs. A strict action will be taken against those who are found violating this instruction.

This decision was taken during chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s meeting with the administration and Police department officials at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow on Wednesday.

According to the news agency ANI, "DJs will not be banned during the 'Kavan Yatra' but they should only play bhajans. No filmy song is allowed," an official statement from CMO's office read.

On being asked about the ban on DJs during Kanwar yatra as it generates noise, CM Yogi Adityanath had asserted that till loudspeakers are not banned in every place of worship, the Kanwar yatra will continue in the usual way. The chief minister gave necessary instructions about the arrangements during Kanwar Yatra and made it clear that the pilgrimage will be monitored by helicopters and like the previous year flowers will be showered on the pilgrims.

Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's devotees. The Kanwaris (pilgrims) visit Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch holy waters of River Ganga.
