Former President of Aligarh Muslim University Student's Union Dr Maskoor Ahmad Usmani in a letter asked the Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Tariq Mansoor who happens to be the Patron of Students’ union to utilise Students’ Union fund for session 2019-2020 to fight the spread of COVID 19 after a sudden rise in the number of COVID positive cases were reported in Aligarh during past few days.

“Medical practitioners from across the country have complained about the shortage of PPEs, Masks and Testing kits to fight against the coronavirus,” Usmani wrote.

He also urged to the Vice-Chancellor to use his wisdom and utilise fund to buy PPE, Masks, Testing kits and other medical equipments.

“This academic year students’ union election was not held so all the fund (Approx 22-26 Lakhs) of Union remain unutilzed which can be a boon for fighting coronavirus.”

He said “Students’ Union has always stood for community and nation, if we had an elected office, the office would have done the same. My alma mater will stand its ground in this tough time to help those who are in need.”

He said that this amount is not sufficient but can add a lot in helping out the medics.

He also urged the Vice Chancellor to hold Students’ Union election in the first 6-8 weeks of the next session as recommended by the Lyngdoh committee
