Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz on Saturday urged J&K LG Manoj Sinha to concede the demand of three families of Rajouri for exhuming the bodies of three slain labourers killed by the Army on July 18 in a case of mistaken identity for a proper burial.

“In a letter today, I urged Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor to concede the demand of the three bereaved families of Rajouri for exhuming the bodies of the three slain labourers namely Ibrar Ahmad, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Ibrar Ahmad, who were killed by the Army at Amshipora Shopian on 18th July, 2020 in a situation of mistaken identity,” he said in a media statement.

“The Army has itself said that there was a prima facie case of the provisions of AFSPA having been exceeded. That way, the Army has accepted that it is a case of mistaken identity and the provisions of AFSPA have been violated. After the Army’s stand on this issue, the bodies should be exhumed and handed over to the families concerned for the burial as per the religious rites,” he added.

“I hope Hon’ble Lt. Governor would accede to the demand of the concerned families and pass the necessary instructions, forthwith. I further urged Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to grant full compensation to the families concerned, expeditiously,” he said.
