In view of the air pollution situation in the Delhi NCR region, the Haryana government has requested the Union government to call an emergency meeting of the neighbouring states of National Capital Region, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, so that the steps can be taken at the earliest.

Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has already sent a letter to Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar to call an emergency meeting so that extensive measures can be taken to control the public health hazard in the NCR.

Chautala said that in this regard, a detailed discussion with the state CM has been held. He said that compared to last year, in Haryana; there has been a significant decrease of 34 per cent in the incidents of stubble burning. It will always be the endeavour of the state government to completely control the incidents of stubble burning, he added.

He said that the continuous burning at the dumping grounds in Delhi area is also a dangerous pollutant and the Delhi government should constantly monitor such incidents. He said that the environment is a matter related to the health of the people.

Therefore, instead of politicising such a matter, efforts should be made to work together to save the environment and the people.

Earlier the Chief Minister, in a telephonic conversation with the Union Environment Minister, requested him to convene this meeting so as to prepare a well-thought-out strategy that would synergise the efforts of different organisations and the government in the region.

The CM said that the meeting of all Chief Ministers and Environment Ministers of the concerned states will help evolve an actionable plan and a joint strategy to address the serious situation and to mitigate the suffering and hardships of the people.
