Launching a no-holds-barred attack against the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh over the death of the Hathras gang rape victim, the Congress on Wednesday held aggressive protests all over the state, pressing for the resignation of the CM Yogi Adityanath.

Joining the Congress' demand, several organizations affiliated with the Left and other opposition parties also demanded Yogi's resignation.

The Congress alleged that the Yogi Adityanath government went soft on the accused because they belong to the CM’s caste.

Leading the charge, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said: Who gave the order for the victim’s body to be taken away and cremated? Why were you sleeping for 14 days? Why did you not act in time? How long will this go on? What kind of CM are you?

Saying that the Congress party will not stop till the justice is delivered, the grand old party asserted, “The UP government is standing against those who demand justice for the rape victim”.

UP Congress chief Ajay Kuamar Lallu also launched a blistering attack on the Yogi government and demanded the resignation of Yogi Adityanath.

He said the BJP-led government has no moral right to be in power. He also questioned the silence of the PM and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Lallu said workers of the Congress party were beaten up by the UP Police when they were leading a march demanding the resignation of the CM. He along with several other activists were taken into custody but were released later.

Several other cities erupted in protest against the brutal gang rape–murder including Hathras. Hundreds of Congress activsts protested in Hathras, demanding justice for the 19-year-old Dalit girl who succumbed to injuries after battling for her life.

Led by head of the Congress woman cell, Sushmita Dev, several activists also protested in Delhi. The party's youth wing staged a protest against the Yogi Adityanath government near the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in the national Capital, demanding justice.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a three-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the gang rape case. The SIT has been asked to submit its report within seven days.

Apart from Congress, several Left organisations have also hit the streets across the country and pressed for Yogi’s resignation. In Kolkata, All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) and All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) staged protest demanding justice for Hathras gang rape victim.
