In Delhi, riot-hit North-East district has least vaccinated people, vaccination centres

Only 1.15 lakh people have got both the vaccine doses in North-East Delhi. There are only 84 vaccination centres, all of which are govt centres. There are no private centres, unlike other districts

North-East Delhi, the riot-hit district which has the largest number of Muslims residing in the National Capital, has the least number of vaccinated people and is currently grappling with extreme vaccine shortage. Only 5.57 lakh people have been vaccinated in the district, followed by Shahdara, where 5.70 lakh persons have been vaccinated.

For July 9, 2021, in three of the vaccination centres, there are only single slots available and no slots are available in any other centre. On July 10, there are no vaccines available in any of the centres, and the situation is the same for Sunday, July 11.

In North-East Delhi, only 1.15 lakh people have got both the vaccine doses. There are only 84 vaccination centres, all of which are government centres. There are no private centres, unlike other districts.

Only 91,789 persons above the age of 60 have been vaccinated in the district. The maximum number of those vaccinated in the district is that of those in the 18-44 age bracket, with 2.99 lakh people having been vaccinated. At least 1.72 lakh people between the ages of 45 and 60 have been vaccinated.

The district has 6.58 lakh Muslims amongst its 22.4 lakh population. This is the highest number of residential Muslim population in the national capital, according to the 2011 Census. The figures is only likely to have risen since then.

Religion-wise Muslim population is not available for South-East and Shahdara districts as they were carved out after the 2011 Census took place.

The maximum number of people have been vaccinated in North-West Delhi (9.96 lakh) and South Delhi (9.71 lakh), with a population of 36.6 lakh and 27.3 lakh respectively. This is followed by West Delhi (9.26 lakh), South-West Delhi (9.25 lakh), Central Delhi (9.17 lakh) and South-East Delhi (8.42 lakh).

In New Delhi district, 7.37 lakh people have been vaccinated; in North Delhi, 6.87 lakh and in East Delhi, 6.25 lakh.


West Delhi has the maximum number of vaccination centres at 126, followed by North Delhi at 124.

On Tuesday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Delhi was running out of vaccines and there was no information on the available vaccines. On July 9, only 99,299 vaccination doses were given.

In Delhi, 87.6 lakh people have been vaccinated so far, of which only 20.6 lakh have got both the doses. Out of a population of 2 crore people, close to 1.5 crore are eligible for the vaccines.

On Thursday, July 8, as many as 1,58,344 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered, but on July 7, only 22,360 vaccine doses were given, of which 11,789 beneficiaries received their first dose. The vaccine bulletin released by the state on July 7 showed that the capital had vaccine doses to last only for two days.
