Militants kill SPO in J&K
Militants killed a special police officer (SPO) in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday.
SPO Fayaz Ahmad was fired at in Zazripora village.
"He was shifted to a hospital where the doctors said he was dead on arrival," the police said.
SPOs are engaged on a fixed monthly emolument by police to fight insurgency. In most cases, the SPOs are not trained in handling firearms.
While the festive spirit in the country this Bakrid was dimmed by the unprecedented disaster caused by Kerala floods, tension prevailed in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir as clashes erupted between the security forces and stone pelting youths. The National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah too faced heckling amid sloganeering in Srinagar.
BJP activist abducted, killed in J&K
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist was abducted and killed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said on Wednesday.
"Shabir Ahmad Bhat was abducted yesterday (Tuesday). His bullet riddled body was found earlier this morning," the police said.
According to sources, Bhat was also provided with armed guards for protection
Farooq Abdullah heckled during Eid prayers
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah was heckled during Eid prayers at a shrine on Wednesday.
Even before the imam leading the congregational prayers could begin the Eid sermon at the Hazratbal shrine, Abdullah was heckled amid sloganeering.
Dozens of youth also hurled shoes and disrupted the congregation forcing the former leader to leave the prayer ground.
In Srinagar, stone-pelters came out on the streets and waved flags of Pakistan and dreaded terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria
