If tweets are to be believed, popular Malayalam actor Mohanlal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to brief him about the social work his organisation was carrying out in flood-ravaged Kerala.

"His humility is endearing. His wide range of social service initiatives are commendable and extremely inspiring," Modi tweeted on Tuesday.

But, political circles in Delhi are abuzz with speculation that Mohanlal might be fielded as BJP candidate against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram in Lok Sabha election-2019.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the RSS has planned the meeting between Modi and Mohanlal. Even BJP’s state leadership was kept in the dark while planning for the meeting. RSS has long been trying to woo Mohanlal, claimed a news report.

In 2016, Mohanlal had supported PM Modi’s demonetisation move and justified temporary hardships that the citizens of the country had to face. However, he was ridiculed for his stand.

Most of Mohanlal’s fan base comes from the south of Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram. He is known to play upper-caste roles in Malayalam movies and in fact, many memes have trolled him for it.

Sharing details of his meeting with the prime minister, the actor said on his Facebook page that he briefed him about Viswa Santhi Foundation and its multi-faceted social initiatives.

"He has assured all support and offered to participate in the 'global Malayalee round table' that can formulate futuristic solutions for a new Kerala,” wrote the 58-year-old actor.

He said the Prime Minister's Office also appreciated the organisation's vision to set up a cancer care center to cater to the needs of the under-privileged.
