AITUC demo against Centre's policies on July 16
AITUC Wednesday decided to hold a demonstration in the district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on July 16, protesting against what it termed as anti-labour and anti-people policies of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state council of the AITUC here. The meeting was presided over by the AITUC state president and CPI MP K Subbarayan.
The demonstration would also be against the union budget which was 'against the common man and also labourers', AITUC sources said.
AITUC national secretary Vahida Nizam and its state general secretary T M Moorthy were among those who attended the meeting.
Muzaffarnagar riots: 3 accused of killing youth get bail
A Muzaffarnagar court has granted bail to three persons accused of killing a youth whose death was a trigger for the Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013.
District Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Pachori gave bail to Prahlad, Bishan Singh and Tendu. He said the accused would be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs 1,50,000 each.
According to prosecution, the there are among the six people accused of stabbing Shahnawaz to death at Kawal village in Jansath area on August 27, 2013.
His death and that of two other youths in another incident were said to be the trigger behind the communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in August and September 2013, which claimed 60 lives and displaced over 40,000 people.

Medical students caught cheating during semester exam Muzaffarnagar
Twelve medical students were allegedly caught cheating during a semester examination here, an official said on Wednesday.
Second and third year MBBS students of the Muzaffarnagar medical college, Begrajpur, were caught using electronic devices by the flying squad team of the Meerut university at the Jain Kanya PG College, where 142 students had appeared for their semester examination on Tuesday.
The electronic devices were found hidden under the clothes and hair wigs during the frisking. One device was also found in the college washroom, Circle Officer Harish Bhadoria said.

PDP demands release of Hurriyat spokesperson on humanitarian grounds Srinagar
Peoples Democratic Party demanded on Wednesday the immediate release of hardline Hurriyat Conference spokesperson Ayaz Akbar on humanitarian grounds so that he could attend his wife who is suffering from a life-threatening disease.
"Akbar's wife is battling serious ailment and needs her husband by her side at present," PDP state secretary Noor Mohammad Sheikh said in a statement.
Sheikh said the entire family of Akbar was reeling under trying circumstances and had already appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik to release the incarcerated separatist leader.

DMK MLAs on Wednesday walked out of the Assembly condemning the state government for being silent for 21 months after the President returned two bills passed by the House.

In the video released by Al Qaeda's media arm As Sahab, Zawahiri asks the mujahideen to "single-mindedly focus on inflicting unrelenting blows on the Indian Army and government, so as to bleed the Indian economy and make India suffer sustained losses in manpower and equipment".

Death toll of PNG Highland tribal violence reaches 23
The death toll of a tribal massacre in Papua New Guinea's Hela Province (PNG) has increased to 23, media reported on Wednesday.
Local television station EMTV reported that in addition to the 16 people violently murdered on Monday, seven people including four men and three women were killed in related incidents on Sunday, reported Xinhua news agency.
While it is not yet clear what the exact circumstances were that led to the massacre, Hela Governor Philip Undialu told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Wednesday, the motive behind the killings could be in retaliation for an earlier incident in another village.

AAP legislator Prakash Jarwal alleged that an illegal liquor supplier fired three gunshots at him on Wednesday during the inaugural event of a water pipeline in Sangam Vihar in south Delhi. Police denied the claim.

A Delhi court on Tuesday acquitted AAP MLA Sarita Singh in a case of alleged misbehaviour with a police official in Rohtas Nagar in 2015.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, while acquitting the AAP leader, told her to submit a bail bond of Rs 20,000.
In 2015, the AAP leader was booked by Delhi Police for misbehaviour with a police official.
The altercation occurred after Singh's driver allegedly hit the police official's motorbike while reversing his car.
ED files supplementary charge sheet in Delhi court against Lalu's daughter, others
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary charge sheet in a Delhi court Wednesday in an alleged money laundering case against RJD Chief Lalu Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti and others.
In the charge sheet, the probe agency named 35 new accused out of which around 15 are individuals and rest are companies.
Out of the 15 individuals, there are eight Chartered Accountants named as accused in the charge sheet which also mentioned the details of shares worth Rs 8,000 crore.
The charge sheet was filed before Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj by Special Public Prosecutor Atul Tripathi.
