3 Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants and their "active associate" were Friday killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said.
A police spokesperson said the third person killed in the encounter was missing since Thursday afternoon and "was part of the militant group".
Earlier, a police official said he was an "active associate" of the group.
"On credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by police and security forces in Sugan area of south Kashmir. Pertinently, the encounter site was located in orchards with no habitation nearby," the police spokesperson said.

Sacrilege case: SIT charge sheet points fingers at Sukhbir Badal over police firing
The SIT probing the desecration of scriptures in Punjab in 2015 has filed a chargesheet, claiming that the police firing which killed two protesters was a “pre-planned handiwork” of the then deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, the former state police chief and the Dera Sacha Sauda head.
The chargesheet filed by the special investigation team of the Punjab Police on May 28 has also accused six others, including a former Akali MLA, for the firing at Kotkapura in Faridkot district that killed two men protesting against cases of desecration on October 14, 2015.

Samajwadi Party leader shot dead in Greater Noida
A Samajwadi Party (SP) leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his home in Greater Noida's Dadri area on Friday, police said.
Ramtek Kataria was the president of the SP's Dadri assembly segment. The police have prima facie ruled out any political conspiracy in his death.
"The incident took place near his home on Jarcha road in Dadri around 12.30 pm. Around four unidentified men arrived in a car and fled after pumping five bullets in his body. Kataria was rushed to a hospital but did not survive," a police official said.
SSP Gautam Buddh Nagar Vaibhav Krishna said prima facie his killing appears to be a result of personal enmity with extended family.
Naxals torch two drilling machines & vehicle in C'garh
Naxals allegedly set ablaze two drilling machines and a vehicle engaged in soil testing work for construction of a bridge in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Friday.
The incident took place late on Thursday night under Bande police station area, said Kanker Superintendent of Police K L Dhruv.
The drilling machines were engaged in soil testing work in Bande riverbed before construction of pillars of the bridge on the river that flows along Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border, he said.
As per the information, a group of Naxals reached the work site and threatened workers to leave the place. After torching two drilling machines and a goods matador vehicle partially laden with cement sacks, the ultras escaped from the spot, Dhruv said.

14 turtles found dead in dried-up pond, 15 others rescued
Fourteen turtles were found dead in a dried-up pond in Gagodar village in Kutch district of Gujarat, forest officials said on Friday.
Deputy conservator of forests (wildlife) S S Asoda said, 15 other turtles were rescued from the pond after the incident was reported on Thursday evening.
"After being alerted, our team rushed to the pond that is located in Rapar taluka, and found carcasses of 14 turtles.
They must have died due to lack of water as the severe heatwave has dried up the pond," said he.
"Fifteen other turtles, which were found alive there, were rescued and immediately shifted to another pond in Thanisara village located nearby, which still has sufficient amount of water," Asoda said.

Two cars and eight motorcycles were destroyed after a transformer caught fire here Friday, officials said.
The incident took place at Block H in Sector 63 around 1.30 pm, Fire Department officials said. The fire was controlled by 1.50 pm, they said.
"Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, services of only one fire tender were required and the blaze was doused in about 15 minutes," said Phase 3 Fire Officer Naresh Kumar Singh.

A suicide car bomb exploded early on Friday morning in an eastern neighborhood of the capital Kabul, leaving seven casualties, police said. Firdous Faramaz, Kabul police chief spokesman, could not immediately say how many were dead or wounded.
"It's too early to say what was the target or to say how many of the seven casualties in the bombing have died and how many are wounded," he told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Dragad Sugan area of south Kashmir following a tip-off about the presence of militants, a police official said.
As the forces carried out searches, militants fired upon them, leading to the encounter, the official said. He said the exchange of fire was going on between the two sides.
