Mamata Banerjee pays tribute to Satyajit Ray on his 100th birth anniversary in Delhi
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday took to Twitter and paid tribute to legendary director Satyajit Ray on his 100th birth anniversary.
Celebrities and netizens have also taken to the social media to pay tribute to the icon.
Banerjee began her tribute with one of the most popular lines of Ray's musicals -- "Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne" -- Maharaja Tomare Selam (Salute to the King).
"Tribute to Satyajit Ray, legendary filmmaker, writer, composer, lyricist, illustrator, on his birth centenary. He is not only the pride of Bengal but also India & the whole world.
He is an inspiration to people around the globe", Banerjee tweeted with the hashtag #SatyajitRay100.

Ladakh's COVID-19 cases cross 14,000-mark; death toll rises 144
Ladakh's COVID-19 tally climbed to 14,086 with 117 fresh cases, while the death toll mounted to 144 as one more patient succumbed to the disease, officials said on Sunday.
The number of active cases in the union territory, however, dropped to 1,400 as 166 more patients were recovered, the officials said quoting a bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services.
Of the new cases, 99 were reported from Leh and 18 from Kargil, they said.

2 army men booked for minor's rape
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two army men in Hathras district when she was returning home after meeting her neighbour.
The incident took place on Friday but was reported to the police on Saturday.
The police have arrested one of the alleged accused Mukesh, who had come to the village on a leave. The other accused, Saurabh, is absconding.

Thunderstorms with rain expected in Delhi
The national capital on Sunday recorded the minimum temperature at 24.8 degrees Celsius, with the meteorological department forecasting thunderstorms with rain later in the day.
The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 40 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity recorded at 8.30 am was 46 per cent.
The minimum and maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 28.2 degrees Celsius and 41.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

3 IPS officers test Covid positive in UP
Three IPS officers have been given additional charge of three districts after their counterparts in these districts tested positive for Covid.
Arvind Chaturvedi has been given charge of Ayodhya district, Ashok Rai has been made Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Nagar and Anil Pandey is SP Bhadohi.
A senior officer at the DGP headquarters said that SP Ayodhya Shailesh Pandey, SP Siddhartha Nagar Ram Abhilash Tripathi, and Ram Badan Singh SP of Bhadohi district have tested positive for coronavirus.
According to sources, a total of 85 gazetted officers are under the grip of Covid in the state while more than 600 non-gazetted policemen have tested positive in the second wave across the state.
