Delhi govt exempts road tax on Battery Operated Vehicles

The Delhi government has exempted road tax on Battery Operated Vehicles, a gazette notification issued 'by order' of the Lieutenant Governor said.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Delhi Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1962 (number 57A of 1962), the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, hereby exempts the tax levied upon all Battery Electric Vehicles described in column I, II, III and IV of Part A of Schedule-I and Part B of Schedule-I of this Act w.e.f., date of issue of this notification," read the gazette notification.

"Congrats Delhi! As promised by CM Arvind Kejriwal when announcing landmark EV Policy, Delhi govt has exempted road tax on Battery Operated Vehicles. With right incentives & supporting infra, we are determined to ensure Delhi leads the country in rapid transition to Elec Vehicles," Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot also tweeted.

Hurricane Delta leaves thousands without electricity in US

After hurricane Delta made landfall in the US Gulf Coast, more than 700,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity across the states of Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi, according to power officials.

In a statement on Saturday, poweroutages.us., a website which records and aggregates live power outage data from utilities all across the US, said that over 586,600 outages were reported in Louisiana, 103,598 in Texas and 67,873 in Mississippi, reports CBS News.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday said it had registered a case and taken over the investigation of the Hathras gang rape-murder of a 19-year-old Dalit woman.

The CBI registered the case on a complaint of the victim's brother who alleged that an accused had tried to strangulate her sister in a millet field on September 14.

3 killed as car collides with tractor-trolley in Delhi

Three persons were killed when a car they were travelling in collided with a tractor-trolley in west Delhi's Moti Nagar on Sunday.

A man identified as Parveen Singh received serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital. The three deceased were identified as Rajesh Sharma, Tarun Gupta, and Charandeep Singh, all residents of Pandav Nagar in east Delhi.

Priest shot at in UP over property dispute

A priest in Uttar Pradesh was shot at in Gonda district over a long standing property dispute. Two people have been arrested, police said.

The incident was of late Saturday. The victim, Samrat Das, serves as a 'pujari' at the Ram Janki temple.

He was admitted to a local hospital but had to be referred to Lucknow for treatment early Sunday. The doctors said his condition was critical.

Another 15,166 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 590,844, according to official figures released on Saturday.

The Chinese mainland reported 21 new imported COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 3,008, the National Health Commission said on Sunday.

Of the new imported cases, 10 were reported in Shanghai, six in Guangdong, three in Sichuan, and one each in Liaoning and Fujian, the commission said, Xinhua news agency reported.

Global COVID-19 cases surpass 37 million mark, says Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 37 million mark, while the deaths have soared to nearly 1,071,400, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 37,087,467 and the fatalities increased to 1,071,399, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 7,711,079 and 214,337, respectively, according to the CSSE.
