Yediyurappa, ex-PM Deve Gowda mourn Jaswant's demise

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda were among the state leaders who mourned the death of former Union Minister Jaswant Singh on Sunday.

"Deeply pained by the passing away of former BJP veteran and Union ex-Minister Jaswant Singh. His contribution to the party and handling crucial ministries, including finance, defence and external affairs, will always be remembered. My condolences to the bereaved family members," Yediyurappa said in a statement here.

"I am saddened to hear about the passing away of former Union Minister Jaswant Singh. May his soul rest in peace. I pray to God to give his family the strength to bear this loss," said former Prime Minister Deve Gowda here.

Karnataka's Congress MLA Gundu Rao tests corona positive

Karnataka's Congress legislator Dinesh Gundu Rao tested coronavirus positive and was sent in home isolation, an official said on Sunday.

"Rao's swab sample result, which came earlier in the day, was positive. He is presently in isolation at his home in the city," party spokesman Ravi Gowda told IANS.

Rao, 50, is a fifth-time legislator from Gandhinagar segment in Bengaluru central suburb.

"I have tested crona positive today. Therefore, will be quarantining myself for 10 days. I request all my primary contacts to get checked and take precautions," Rao tweeted.

Mamata condoles death of Jaswant Singh

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday mourned the demise of former Union minister Jaswant Singh, and extended her condolences to his family and admirers.

Singh, a close associate of ex-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, died in Delhi on Sunday following a long spell of illness. He was 82.

"Saddened at the passing away of former Defence Minister and one of India's longest-serving parliamentarians, Jaswant Singh Ji. My condolences to his family and his many admirers," the chief minister tweeted.

Uma Bharti tests Corona positive

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti has tested positive for the Coronavirus. She is in quarantine at Vande Mataram Kunj located between Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.

Bharti herself gave this information on Twitter.

"I want to bring it in your notice, that on the last day on my mountain journey I called up a Corona test team following the request by the administration because I had mild fever for last three days. Despite following all legal prohibition for Covid-19 and social distancing at Himalayas I have turned out to be Corona positive," she tweeted late Saturday.

Nepali Army reports 2nd COVID-19 death

The Nepali Army (NA) has reported a second fatality due to the novel coronavirus, while the number of infected personnel stood at 2,197, the media reported.

In a statement on Saturday, NA spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel said the victim was a 20-year-old soldier posted in Kathmandu valley, reports The Himalayan Times.

The victim, who had also been suffering from epilepsy, was admitted to the Chauni based Birendra Hospital on September 22 after suffering from a seizure attack, Poudel said.

Woman gang raped in moving bus in UP

A woman passenger was allegedly gang-raped inside a running bus for entire night on Friday and was later thrown out of the bus.

She was found lying unconscious on Delhi Road in Meerut on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital where she later related the traumatic experience.

This is the third such incident in Uttar Pradesh in the last about one month when a woman passenger on way to Delhi was gang raped on a moving bus and, that too, by the staff.

The victim, according to reports, told the police that she had boarded a bus from Bhaisali bus stand on Friday night. On the bus, she was given cold drink which had apparently been spiked after which she lost consciousness and was gang-raped by the driver and the conductor through the entire night.

Global COVID-19 cases cross 32.7million: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 32.7 million, while the deaths have increased to more than 992,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.

As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 32,746,134 and the fatalities rose to 992,946, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 7,077,450 and 204,485, respectively, according to the CSSE.

Odisha man booked for making fake COVID-19 vaccine

A 32-year-old man has been booked in Odishas Bargarh district for allegedly manufacturing fake COVID-19 vaccines, police said on Saturday.

A case was filed against Prahallad Bisi, a class 7 dropout, after the officials of the Drug Control Administration and police raided his house in Rushuda village in the Bheden Police station area on Friday, they said.

Twelve bottles of the fake injections, labels and syringes were seized in the raid, they added.

Assam reports 1,736 new COVID-19 cases, 13 more deaths

Assam reported 13 more fatalities due to COVID-19, while 1,736 new cases raised the tally to 1,69,110, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.

The death toll increased to 638 with the new fatalities, while the state reported 1,595 fresh recoveries, he said.

Most of the latest deaths happened in Golaghat where three patients lost their lives, followed by two deaths each in Sivasagar and Jorhat districts, Sarma said.

Dhemaji, Hojai, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Nagaon and Karimganj also reported one death each, he added.
