Air quality 'very poor' in Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad
The average air quality was recorded in the 'very poor' category in Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Faridabad while it was 'poor' in Gurgaon, according to data issued by a government agency on Wednesday.
PM2.5 and PM10 levels remained significantly high in the five cities neighbouring Delhi, according to the air quality index (AQI) maintained by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
The average AQI at 4 pm was 388 in Ghaziabad, 398 in Greater Noida, 348 in Noida, 367 in Faridabad and 276 in Gurgaon, according to CPCB's Sameer app.
2 peacocks found dead in UP's Fatehpur district
Two peacocks were found dead in a jungle in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district on Wednesday, officials said, ruling out avian influenza as cause of death.
The carcasses of the peacocks were found in the Merai village area in the afternoon, DFO P N Rai said.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Rajendra Kumar Sharma said as per the postmortem report, the birds died due to cold.
Symptoms of bird flu have not been found in the dead peacocks, he said.

Bhopal receives first batch of corona vaccine
The first batch of the coronavirus vaccine has reached Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal. The consignment was dispatched to Bhopal via airplane from Pune. As many as 4.5 lakh people would be vaccinated during the first phase.
The vaccination is going to start from January 16. A total of five lakh doses of the vaccine would arrive for the first phase of the vaccination in the state. The first batch of the vaccine containing 94,000 doses has reached Bhopal and has been sent to the Vaccine Division Centre.
This vaccine would be sent to eight districts from Bhopal. Of the first batch, the vaccine would reach Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior directly from Pune.

Bird deaths reported from UP's Jalaun district
Five birds, mostly crows, have been found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district, amid cases of avian influenza in the state, officials said on Wednesday.
Though samples have been sent for testing, it seems that the birds died due to cold, they said.
The deaths were reported from Bamhori and Islamabad localities of Kadaura village over two days, veterinary officer Dr Vipin Sachan said, adding that officials have been asked to be alert.
"In the Bamhori and Islamabad localities of Kadaura hamlet, two crows and a bird were found dead on Tuesday, while on Monday death of two more crows was reported," he said.
