Five killed as SUV hits truck in Gujarat

Five people were killed and as many others injured after their SUV hit a truck on Ahmedabad-Limbdi highway in Gujarat's Surendranagar district on Sunday morning, police said.

The mishap took place near Devpara village in Limbdi taluka when 10 people were travelling in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Somnath to Ahmedabad.

The SUV driver apparently lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle jumped the divider and hit a truck approaching from the opposite direction, an official at Limbdi police station said.

Asserting that the uproar over the amended citizenship law and the Jamia-JNU violence will be a major factor in the Delhi Assembly polls, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's "subdued" response to the issues "smacks of opportunism".

He also said the Congress will play a "significant" role in the polls and exuded confidence that the party could get enough seats to emerge as the "determining factor" in government formation.

"He (Kejriwal) did not show up in Jamia (Millia Islamia), he did not show up in JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University). His statements were not frequent enough, strong enough and open enough," Sibal told PTI in an interview.

Ex-IAS officer detained at Prayagraj airport

Kannan Gopinathan, a ormer IAS officer from Kerala, was detained by the city police soon after he had arrived at the airport here, police said on Sunday.

Gopinathan had arrived in the city from Delhi on Saturday to address a two-hour symposium organised by the All India People's Forum on the issue of 'Nagrikta Bachao, Samvidhan Bachao, Loktantra Bachao' (save citizenship, save constitution and save democracy).

Gopinathan had hit the headlines when he resigned from his service after the abrogation of Article 370 which he termed "was a violation of the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir".

Yemen missile attack kills at least 70 soldiers: sources

At least 70 Yemeni soldiers have been killed in a missile attack launched by Huthi rebels on a mosque in the central province of Marib, medical and military sources said on Sunday.

A medical source at a Marib city hospital, where the casualties were transported, told AFP at least 70 were killed in Saturday's strike.

Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi condemned the "cowardly and terrorist" attack, according to official media

Five-year-old girl raped by minor boy in UP's Muzaffarnagar

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a minor boy on a vacant quarter in a meat plant in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Alnoor meat plant compound under Sikheda police station area on Saturday, they said.

Parents of both the victim and the accused (14) work at the meat plant, the police said.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's family, the accused took her to the vacant quarter and raped her, they said.

Alerted by the girl's cries, her mother rushed to the spot and rescued her. The boy was caught by the victim's family, they said.

NIA to question arrested DSP Davinder Singh in Srinagar
