Amid job losses across the country during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Saturday launched a nationwide 'Rozgar Do' (give employment) campaign.
Addressing the media, IYC in-charge Krishna Allavaru said, "Today's topic is 'Rozgar Do' as the country's economy has already been badly affected by the lockdown. The policies of the Narendra Modi government had already weakened India's economy much before the lockdown."
Allavaru said that the decisions of the Modi government made the crawling economy reach for the ventilator.
Taking a swipe at the government, Youth Congress president Srinivas B.V. said, "Our youth do not have bread to eat at the time of Covid crisis and the government needs to think about that."
16,867 new COVID-19 cases, 7,64,281 total cases

Veteran Bihar Cong leader and sitting MLA Ramdeo Rai dies
Veteran Congress leader, multiple term Bihar MLA and former Lok Sabha member Ramdeo Rai, who had caused ripples in the 1980s when he defeated socialist heavyweight Karpoori Thakur in an electoral contest, died here on Saturday.
The 81-year-old sitting MLA from Bachhwara in Begusarai district, breathed his last at a private hospital in Patna, where he had been admitted for a few months and suffered a cardiac arrest in the morning, party sources said.
Condoling his demise, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remembered Rai as a "sweet natured, soft-spoken and simple" political leader whose death felt to him like a "personal loss".
A die-hard Congress leader, Rai had registered his maiden electoral victory in the 1972 assembly polls and retained the seat five years later despite the massive Janata Party wave.
In 1985, he plunged into the Lok Sabha polls and, moving base to Samastipur which was Thakurs stronghold, earned the reputation of a giant-killer by defeating the former chief minister, riding the wave generated in favour of the Congress in the wake of assassination of Indira Gandhi.

Sex racket busted in Delhi, DCW rescues 20-year-old girl from Rohini
The Delhi Commission for Women, on Friday night rescued a 20-year-old girl from a sex racket allegedly running in a house in Rohini.
The girl had dialled the Commission's 181 helpline seeking help. The DCW team got into action after the girl informed them that one of her old acquaintances had lured her with the promise of a high paying job and had instead pushed her into prostitution.
He had told her that he could help her earn easy money using a "shortcut". The girl agreed and went with him to a house situated in Rohini sector 6 on August 25. It was there that the girl realised that she was being pushed into prostitution.
Upon reaching the house in Rohini, she was told to engage in prostitution with several clients visiting the house on a daily basis. She was told that she would be paid Rs 1,000 per client. When the girl protested, she was threatened, beaten up and locked inside the house.
Informal classes for standard 12, college final year from September 15 in Assam
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that classes for standard 12 and final year of undergraduate programmes will commence on September 15 in an informal and experimental way.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said these informal classes will be on till September 30, but it will be discontinued if any student or teacher tests positive in between.
"The principals or heads will make four-five small groups, which will come and interact with teachers in informal classes," Sarma said.

Coronavirus patient falls to death at Moradabad hospital
A coronavirus patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad, police said.
According to them, the 42-year-old patient, who was a senior manager with a bank, was admitted to the Teerthankar University hospital on August 25. He jumped to his death on Thursday night, police said.
Local police post in-charge Praveen Kumar said a CCTV footage showed that he jumped from the sixth floor of the hospital. He was found dead at the ground floor of the hospital, Kumar said.
His room has been sealed by police, Kumar said, adding that the cause of the incident will be known only after investigation.
Prime facie, it appears to be a suicide case, he added.
This is the second such incident at the Moradabad hospital in since August 19. Earlier, a woman had fallen to her death from the second floor of the hospital.
Man commits suicide in UP's Bhadohi
Saddened over a case registered against him, a 25-year-old man allegedly hanged himself here, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Hardevpur area under Gopiganj police station limits on Friday night, they said.
According to circle officer Kalu Singh, a trader was beaten up allegedly by Sandeep Shukla alias Pintu and his friends almost three months ago.
A case was registered in this regard against six people, including Shukla, under the under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Gopiganj police station, Singh said.

NZ reports 13 new COVID-19 cases
New Zealand reported 13 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the total to 1,376, the Ministry of Health said.
According to the Ministry, two infected persons had arrived in New Zealand from India on August 23, reports Xinhua news agency.
The other 11 cases were community transmissions, 10 of whom were linked to the Auckland cluster.
The remaining case was still under investigation.
Death toll from hurricane Laura in US reaches 14
The death toll due to the Category 4 hurricane Laura, that lashed the US states of Louisiana and Texas, has increased to 14, authorities said.
Ten of the victims were in Louisiana and four in Texas, the BBC reported.
Laura has now been downgraded to tropical storm status, but heavy rain is still pounding several states.

NC's political affairs committee meets first time after revocation of J-K's special status

Global COVID-19 cases top 24.6 million: Johns Hopkins
The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 24.6 million, while the deaths have increased to over 835,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Saturday morning, the total number of cases stood at 24,646,610 and the fatalities rose to 835,730, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
The US accounted for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 5,913,564 and 181,767 respectively, according to the CSSE.
Brazil came in the second place with 3,804,803 infections and 119,504 deaths.
In terms of cases, India ranks third (3,387,500), and is followed by Russia (977,730), Peru (621,997), South Africa (620,132), Mexico (585,738), Colombia (581,995), Spain (439,286), Chile (405,972), Argentina (392,009), Iran (369,911), the UK (333,798), Saudi Arabia (312,924), Bangladesh (306,794), France (304,947), Pakistan (295,053), Turkey (265,515), Italy (265,409), Germany (242,126), Iraq (223,612), Philippines (209,544), Indonesia (165,887), Canada (129,342), Qatar (118,196), Ukraine (117,172), Bolivia (114,409), Ecuador (112,141), Israel (112,000) and Kazakhstan (105,408), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the Mexico (63,146), India (61,529), UK (41,573), Italy (35,472), France (30,601), Spain (29,011), Peru (28,277), Iran (21,249), Colombia (18,467), Russia (16,866), South Africa (13,743) and Chile (11,132).
