LIVE News Updates: 5 LeT terrorist associates arrested in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir

Five terrorist associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba were arrested in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.

Arms and ammunition were recovered based on disclosures made by them, the police said.

Security forces nabbed five terrorist associates belonging to LeT on Monday night, a police official said.

Incriminating materials, including five hand grenades, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) and one UBGL grenade, were recovered at their instance, he said.

Further investigation is underway, the police official said.

Doctor dies in suspected hit-and run-case in Delhi

In a suspected hit-and-run case, a doctor returning from work was killed after a car allegedly crashed into his bicycle in south Delhi's Saket, police said on Tuesday.

J P Yadav was posted at the MCD dispensary in Mehrauli, they said, adding that the incident took place on Monday.

According to police, the doctor's car had developed a snag and he was unable to get it repaired due to the ongoing lockdown. So, he decided to go to work on his bicycle.

Tiger kills villager at Pench reserve

A 56-year-old man was killed by a tiger at Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, an official from the forest department said on Tuesday.

As per a release issued by the reserve's field director, a couple from Ghatpendhari village in west Pench range had entered the core area of the reserve to pick mahua flowers on Monday, when a tiger attacked the man and dragged him away.

On being alerted, forest officials rushed to the spot and conducted a search, following which the victim's body was recovered and sent for post-mortem.

"This appears to be a chance encounter as the villagers had ventured deep into the forest and there are no other related cases in this area, which is being monitored by the forest department," the release stated.

Veteran Odisha trade unionist Souribandhu Kar dies at 72

Veteran trade union leader, writer and columnist Souribandhu Kar died at a hospital here following a brief illness, family sources said.

He was 72 and is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

Kar, who was the general secretary of the Odisha unit of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), was undergoing treatment at a private hospital where he died on Monday night, they said.

People from different walks of life, including many Left leaders, mourned his death.

Delhi Constable, 3 others held for liquor smuggling

A Delhi Police Constable and three other persons have been arrested on the charge of involvement in liquor smuggling, police said on Tuesday.

Accused Constable Ravinder was posted in the Begampura police station in Rohini police district.

The accused were arrested from a Ramgarh service road in Jahangirpuri area. A case was registered against them at the Mahendra Park police station.

West Bengal guv urges Mamata to follow Constitution

West Bengal Governor Jagdee Dhankhar on Tuesday paid homage to the chief architect of the Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar on his 129th birth anniversary and urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "to reflect and follow the Constitution".

Taking a jibe at the TMC government in the state, he said, "Lockdown with Governor is unconstitutional and anti- democratic."

"Homage on birth anniversary of Father of our Constitution - crusader for social justice - Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Urge @MamataOfficial to reflect and follow constitution. Lockdown with Governor is unconstitutional and anti democratic," Dhankhar tweeted.

The governor said the stand-off between the West Bengal government and the Raj Bhavan violates the Constitution.

"Democracy in peril, constitution violated," he added.

Dhankhar, in a tweet, had on Monday urged Banerjee to end the stand-off with the Raj Bhavan.

He has been at loggerheads with the state government over a host of issues ever since taking up office in July last year.

N.Korea fires missiles on eve of founder's b'day

North Korea fired what appeared to be cruise missiles off its east coast and air-to-ground missiles from fighter jets on Tuesday on the eve of Pyongyang founder's birthday, according to the South Korean military.

The surface-to-ship cruise missiles were fired northeastward from areas near its eastern coastal town of Munchon at around 7 a.m. during a time period of more than 40 minutes, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said, adding they flew around 150 km, reports Yonhap News Agency.

Oil prices settle mixed after OPEC+ historic output cuts

Oil prices settled mixed as market participants digested a highly anticipated decision by major oil producers on output cuts.

On Monday, the West Texas Intermediate for May delivery decreased US $0.35 to settle at $22.41 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while Brent crude for June delivery rose $0.26 to close at $31.74 a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies led by Russia, a group known as OPEC+, agreed on Sunday to reduce output by 9.7 million barrels per day (bpd) for May and June after four days of talks.
