The AMMK's minority youth wing district secretary K Javed Hussain was hacked to death by a three-member gang, police said Wednesday.

The Congress on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was misleading the electorate with "hollow claims" of success of various schemes and dubbed him as a "king of advertisement and villain of development".
Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said Modi focussed only on "event management" and ignored "nation management", alleging that he behaved "like a propaganda minister instead of prime minister".
He said Modi's promises and claims are like a "mirage" which disappears when seen with the lens of reality.
He alleged that the NDA government's flagship programme Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana launched on May 1, 2016 has proved a "failure" and must serve as warning sign to people that Modi cannot and should not be trusted.
Clarify suspicious movements of EVMs in TN: DMK to EC
The DMK on Wednesday asked the Election Commission to clarify on the suspicious movements of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines to Theni and Erode on Tuesday.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, DMK's Organising Secretary and MP R.S. Bharathi also asked them the purpose of shifting the machines.
According to Bharathi, about 50 EVMs were brought to the office of Thesildar at Theni from Coimbatore without any intimation to the candidates who had contested in the Theni Lok Sabha constituency and in the by-elections for Periakulam and Andipatti Assembly seats.
Goa govt urges EC to ease poll code for pre-monsoon works
The Goa government has requested the Election Commission to relax the model code of conduct in South Goa district, where voting for the Lok Sabha polls has concluded, to take up pre-monsoon works.
Goa's Chief Secretary Parimal Rai wrote a letter to the state chief electoral office last Friday, urging that the poll code be relaxed in the South Goa district, where voting took place on April 23.
State Chief Electoral Officer Kunal on Wednesday said they have received the letter and pre-monsoon works are allowed in the South Goa district on a case-to-case basis.

Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad's wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Wednesday denounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was worse than a "Duryodhan".
Commenting on Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi's description of Modi as "Duryodhan", Rabri Devi said Modi was far worse.

Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav on Wednesday attacked his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, saying the latter is not listening him is and is surrounded by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) men.
"Tejashwi RSS ke dalla ke chakkar mein pad gaye hain (Tejashwi is surrounded by RSS men)", Tej Pratap Yadav said at an election meeting in Jehanabad, where he was campaigning for Chandra Prakash, the candidate of his newly-floated outfit Lalu-Rabri Morcha.

After a group of journalists in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh accused the BJP of "trying to bribe reporters for favourable coverage" to influence the national election, a video has emerged of envelopes being handed out to the media at a press conference held in the mountainous town last week reported NDTV.
In the CCTV clip, BJP legislator Vikram Randhawa is seen handing out envelopes to journalists in the presence of the party's state unit chief Ravinder Raina. NDTV cannot verify the authenticity of the video.
The BJP has denied the allegations. The party said the lawmaker was handing out invites to the journalists for Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's rally in the region. It said it will sue the journalists for defamation.
