Congress general secretary for the eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi who was campaigning in Rae Bareli on Wednesday, said that the BJP is going to suffer a major setback in the elections due to the electoral strategy of the Congress.

Talking to media, Priyanka revealed her strategy and said, “My strategy is very clear. The Congress will win on the seats where our candidates are strong. And where our candidates are slightly lightweight, they will cut into BJP’s vote share.”

“One does not do politics only to win,” said Priyanka, adding that the BJP tally will considerably shrink in the elections.

Priyanka’s statement is being seen as a response to the Mahagathbandhan leaders who have been constantly blaming the Congress for eating in to SP-BSP vote share.

Congress has fielded candidates in a few Lok Sabha seats with the sole intention of eating into the BJP vote share, asserted Priyanka.

Replying to a question on whether the Congress would harm the SP-BSP-RLD alliance chances, Priyanka said: “Not at all.”

“We are only contesting the elections for peoples’ welfare and our ideology. Only Narendra Modi is worried about who will be the next prime minister,” she said.

Rae Bareli, where Priyanka was campaigning on Wednesday, will vote on May 6 in the fifth phase of polling.
