Expressing his anguish over the brutal gang rape of an eight-year-old girl in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that the brutality minor girl was subjected to, is sickening.

Demanding speedy justice in such cases, Rahul called the nation to unite to protect children from predators. He tweeted:

Senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia demanded the CBI inquiry in the case. Talking to a news agency, he said women are not safe in MP at all.

“It took a lot of time to lodge an FIR in the rape case of an eight-year-old girl in Mandsaur. Even today the investigation is not going in the right direction. We demand a CBI inquiry in the case. Women in my state don’t feel safe,” said the Congress leader.

Blaming Shivraj Singh led BJP government for poor law and order situation, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said that under BJP rule, the state - has become a rape capital of India.

Addressing the media in Delhi, she said, “Every 15 minutes, a child is subjected to sexual assault in India but MP tops the list of states. Three big cities of MP are considered the most insecure for women in the country.”

“It is heartbreaking and shocking. The girl is still battling for her life,” she added.

Meanwhile, MY Hospital, where the minor is recuperating has said that the girl is out of danger.

“She is improving slowly. She is on liquid diet and a team of five doctors is keeping a tab on her health,” stated the hospital in a medical bulletin released on Saturday morning.

Doctors treating the girl also said there was no need to shift the girl to a hospital outside the state as she was showing signs of improvement.

The minor was abducted while she was waiting for her father outside her school on Tuesday (June 26). After being gang raped at a secluded place, the accused slit her throat with a knife and left her to die.

MP police have arrested two persons in connection with the crime.
