An FIR was filed against Actor Alok Nath based on the allegations of rape by Vinta Nanda, a veteran writer-producer of the avant-garde 1990s' show "Tara". "The Oshiwara police has registered an FIR against Alok Nath for rape on the complaint filed by Vinta Nanda," said senior police officer Manoj Sharma.

The case was filed under under section 376 of IPC (rape),” Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Sharma said in a Hindustan Times report.

The case will come up in court in February 2019.

A sessions court in Mumbai had earlier also rejected Alok Nath’s application seeking an injunction order against Vinta Nanda.

Nanda stated that she had been raped after being given a spiked drink by Alok Nath. When she left his residence feeling uneasy, he offered to drop her off in his vehicle. But instead he took her to an unknown location and brutalised her.

"I have waited for this moment to come for 19 years," Nanda wrote in a long, heart-wrenching Facebook post on October 8, referring to the "predator in question" as "the actor par excellence who is known as the most 'sanskaari' (cultured) person in the film and television industry".

Alok Nath had filed a civil suit in a court against writer-director Vinta Nanda in connection with her rape accusations against him, and sought ₹1 as damages for allegedly defaming him on October 15.

Alok Nath's wife Ashu, also recorded her statement before a magistrate in connection with her complaint against Nanda and sought that defamation proceedings be initiated against the writer-director.

The Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) has also severed all ties with the actor following the accusations of rape.

The allegations against Alok Nath emerged during the #MeToo movement that took the internet by storm. The #MeToo movement began with Tanushree Dutta accusing Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of a film they were working on.
