National president of Swaraj India party, Yogendra Yadav, on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting his family following Income Tax raids on two hospitals run by his sisters in Rewari, Haryana.

Even as the raids were ongoing in Kalawati Hospital and Kamla Nursing Home, both established in 1979, at the time of writing this report, party sources said that both the hospitals make donations to Yadav’s newly floated Swaraj Party.

Yadav has been campaigning for remunerative prices for the produce of farmers and demanding that liquor shops in every village be closed. On Tuesday, he took to Twitter and said that over 100 officials from Delhi raided a hospital-cum-nursing home run by his sisters on Wednesday in Rewari.

“Modi regime now targets my family. Two days after my 9-day padyatra in Rewari and launching of agitation for MSP and against liquor thekas, a massive IT raid is on at the hospital-cum-nursing home of my sisters in Rewari. Pl search me, my home, why target my family? (Sic),” he said in a couple of tweets.

He added: “About 100+ force from Delhi raided hospitals at 11 am today. All doctors (my sisters, brother in law, nephew) detained in their chambers. Hospital sealed, including ICU for newly born babies. A clear attempt to intimidate. Modiji you can't silence me.”

His party leaders were quick to react, saying that the BJP government in the state and Centre have been rattled by their 9-day Swaraj Yatra in Haryana. “And now, when their false propaganda of MSP hike didn't work, the Modi government targets the family of Yogendra Yadav, a day after the 9-day Swaraj yatra in Haryana,”said party spokesperson, Anupam.

“Modi uses Intimidation Team (IT) Raid on @_YogendraYadav family in Rewari, Haryana. Attempt to silence voice of farmers about Fake MSP & Liquor Mafia Raj in Haryana. Sorry. We aren't feeling scared. Modi, free to try some more dirty tricks and test our resolve,” wrote Avik Saha, national convener Jai Kissan Andolan, on Twitter.

Meanwhile, president Haryana Congress Ashok Tanwar has condemned the raids, saying that “we stand in solidarity with all those Opposition leaders who are being victimized by the Modi government for raising genuine issues.”
