Even as youths launched a nationwide campaign to highlight unemployment in India to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Thursday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi issued a warning to the BJP-led government.

Saying that “youths want jobs and results without going to the court”, she reiterated that they also wanted the cancellation of Samvida — jobs on contract provision.

Echoing the youths’ sentiments, Priyanka tweeted, “Youths have roared. If the government still keeps working with closed eyes and does not change its attitude, the youths will change the government.”

Earlier in the day, the UP general secretary interacted with 12,460 youths through video conference, of whom many had qualified in the 2016 teachers’ recruitment exam.

Still waiting for the results, many youths told Priyanka that they are trapped in a legal tangle.

During the meeting, a woman applicant who had qualified in the exam, started crying, said UP Congress.

“I was very happy when I passed the (teachers’ recruitment) exam in 2016, but it has been more than three years that I am waiting for the results…Due to the financial crisis and continuous wait for the results, I became a depression patient…,” she told Priyanka during the meeting.

Another participant told Priyanka Gandhi that due to unemployment, his marriage couldn’t materialise. He had become a laughing stock in society, he said.

Addressing the unemployed youths, Priyanka said it is not a political issue but pertained to justice and human rights.
