The Supreme Court’s verdict on Thursday that rejected pleas seeking independent probe into the death of special CBI judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya has deeply disappointed some of the late judge’s relatives, according to a report in The Print. The apex court decision has extinguished hopes of closure for the family, that feels “everything seemed managed”, says The Print report.

“The judgment is not as per our expectations. There are a number of unanswered questions,” uncle of the late judge Srinivas Loya told The Print over phone from Latur. “It would have been much better if there was an independent probe. But we don’t have any expectation from anyone any more about this. Everything seems managed. The media and opposition parties have been taking the issue up, but nothing seems to be coming of it.”

Anuradha Biyani, sister of late Judge Loya, echoed that sentiment, the report read. “Kya bolun ab (What should I say)?” said Biyani. “Jo ek vishwas tha woh bhi ab nahi hain. Kuch bolne ke jaisa rakha hi nahi hain chaar saal se ab kisi ne. (There is no hope left. For the past four years, we have been left with nothing to say).”

Earlier on Thursday, while dismissing a bunch of petitions seeking independent probe into the death of Judge Loya, the Supreme Court said that the plea to investigate the judge's death was “bereft of any truth”, and added that it was an attempt “to malign the judiciary”. It further said that the PILs, which were meant to provide succour to the downtrodden and voiceless, have now become an industry to settle scores.
