The Communist party of India (CPI) has alleged that ‘goons’ belonging to the BJP on Thursday destroyed its Tripura state council office in Agartala.

CPI general secretary D Raja asserted that the miscreants attacked the CPI office around 11 am in the morning when party members were observing a bandh and completely destroyed the office.

“They continued the attack for almost one hour and destroyed the whole building and our belongings inside. This happened on the day when workers and farmers were on a nationwide strike against the retrograde policies of the Modi government,” said the party.

In a statement, D Raja said, “The attack exposes the desperation and intolerance of the BJP-RSS combine. The party would like to warn the RSS-BJP combine that such undemocratic fascist attacks cannot deter the Communist Party of India from working among the people who are fighting against the anti-people, anti-worker and anti-farmer policies of the government”.

Appealing to all democratic, secular and progressive forces to come out in protest against the BJP vandalism, the CPI also demanded immediate action against the ‘goons.’

The BJP formed a government in the north eastern state after ousting the Left Front government led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) which had a tenure of 25 years there, with Biplab Kumar Deb taking over as Chief Minister.
