The Congress on Friday held an online campaign called #SpeakUpForOurJawans to observe 'Shaheedon ko Salam Divas’, during which over two crore fellow Indians and members of the Congress joined hands on Twitter and crores of others joined other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram etc. to pay homage to 20 soldiers recently killed in the Galwan Valley conflict with Chinese forces.Hundreds of residents of Ladakh also joined this campaign.

“The campaign was also aimed at expressing the country’s solidarity with the armed forces in every endeavour to defend the country,” said a statement issued by Randeep Singh Surjewala, in-charge of AICC Communications.

“Ordinary men and women posted heart-touching videos and messages conveying their sentiments in the memory of our jawans and in the honour of our armed forces,” it said.

The campaign, which started at 10 AM, trended at the number one spot on Twitter for over seven hours, it added.

Lakhs of people posted their videos demanding answers from the government on the following questions, the statement said:

• How dare the Chinese forces occupy our land?

• How and when will Modi Government ensure that our land is restored back to us?

• How does the Modi Government propose to repulse the Chinese transgressions?

• How have the Chinese occupied Patrol Point-14, Galwan Valley, Ladakh, where our 20 jawans were martyred?

• What action is Modi Government taking on the brazen Chinese occupation and ongoing construction of bunkers etc. between Finger-4 and Finger-8 in Pangong Tso Lake Area?

• Why is government not taking note of the brazen Chinese transgressions in the Depsang Plains up to Y-Junction, 18 kilometres inside the Lake?

• Has the government noted the nefarious Chinese Army build-up in the Galwan Riverbed as also in the entire Eastern Ladakh?

• How does the government propose to protect national security and India’s territorial integrity?

• Why is Prime Minister giving contradictory statements undermining the valor of our Armed Force?

“The success of the campaign clearly sends the message that this is the voice of the nation. No matter how hard the Modi government tries to crush the voice of India through select news channels and manufactured disinformation campaign, the people of India will not rest and will ensure that our government supports our armed forces as also that the sacrifice of our jawans is not in vain. We, the Indians, will always stand by our armed forces and will not allow anyone to occupy our motherland at any cost. The onus lies upon the Modi government to hear the voice of the nation and act,” the statement concluded.
