Saying that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has compromised with the fascist forces in pursuit of power, the expelled JD(U) leader Pavan K Varma said that his anti-CAA posturing was the main reason behind his expulsion.

Accusing Nitish Kumar of compromising with his politics and principles, former bureaucrat turned politician said, “Nitish considered me as an obstacle…His friendship with the BJP is essentially nothing but a compromise in pursuit of power with the fascist forces,” asserted Varma.

“That is why we have been expelled,” he added referring to the expulsion of JD(U) vice president Prashant Kishore.

Varma, a vocal critique of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act said that he somewhat feels relieved after the expulsion as he will not have to defend JDU’s undefendable position on CAA-NPR-NRC.

“He (Nitish Kumar) supported CAA to secure his chief ministership after the next assembly election,” added Varma.

Varma, on January 21, had shot off a letter to Nitish Kumar and made it public, opposing JDU’s alliance with the BJP in Delhi and questioning JDU’s official stand on the CAA-NPR-NRC.

Reacting to his letter, Nitish Kumar though downplayed the issue, it was increasingly becoming evident that sooner or later Varma will have to face the wrath of the JDU supremo, Nitish Kumar. As a result, analysts believe he has been expelled from the party.
