With former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee admitted to the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences in Delhi, his admirers and Bharatiya Janata Party activists on June 12 held prayers for his recovery at different places in Uttar Pradesh.

While a special 'havan' was conducted in Kanpur by party workers for his speedy recovery, BJP and Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh members took part in a 'Deerghayu Yagya' at Gonda.

Special pujas were organised at Balrampur, from where Vajpayee started his political career, said a well-wisher.

Vajpayee, 93, who was Prime Minister briefly in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004, is battling a urinary tract infection and respiratory disorders for which he is admitted at AIIMS. His condition is said to be stable.

Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha from Lucknow five times.

Politicians across party lines, supporters and admirers have been sending a steady stream of wishes to the former PM.

VIPs including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited AIIMS on Monday to wish the former PM well. Rahul was the first to visit the hospital to check on Vajpayee's health. Health Minister JP Nadda also visited, followed by Amit Shah, Modi, Rajnath Singh and LK Advani. On Tuesday, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu enquired about Vajpayee's health.

In Patna, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday also prayed for Vajpayee’s rapid recovery. "I prayed for the fast recovery of Vajpayeeji. May God keep him healthy and give him a long life," said Tejashwi.
