Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached the temple town of Ayodhya on last leg of her three day visit to Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a street rally in Ayodhya, the epicentre of the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, Priyanka Gandhi hit out at PM Modi and said that the Modi government is anti-farmers, anti-people.

Dubbing the BJP government as pro-rich, Priyanka Gandhi urged the people to throw them out of power in coming elections.

“The BJP government is anti-farmer, anti-forces. Farmers are reeling in debt…The government’s focus is only on helping the rich, making the rich richer,” she said.

“Modi government has money for businessmen, but not for the poor,” she added.

Priyanka Gandhi who was visiting Ayodhya after her Ganga sojourn, accused the Modi government of shutting down the MGNREGA scheme and claimed that workers under the scheme had not been paid for six months.

Sharing an anecdote with the people of Ayodhya, Priyanka Gandhi said in five years, Modi did not find time to visit a single village in his constituency, Varanasi.

“I was stunned to hear from people in Varanasi that in five years, the PM didn’t get time to go to a single village, visit even one family in his constituency.”

“He went to America, Japan, China, the entire world. But he didn’t have the time to meet his own constituents. He has done nothing for the people in his own constituency, let alone the people across the rest of the country. It is no small thing, it is a big issue. It shows this government's intention. It is focused on making the rich richer but not helping the poor,” she stressed.

Priyanka Gandhi began her second tour of Uttar Pradesh with a visit to Amethi and Rae Bareli - the constituencies represented by her brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi.

Congress has fielded Nirmal Khatri as its candidate for Faizabad Lok Sabha seat. Khatri won the 2009 election but lost in the 2014 elections.  BJP’s Lallu Singh won the Faizabad seat in the 2014 elections.

The national election will begin on April 11 and take place in seven rounds of voting across the country. Results will be declared on May 23.
