Hours after the Government of India, withdrew status of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) to Pakistan, main opposition party Congress came in full support of the government and said that "this is a time of sadness and mourning," and the party "stands in full support of jawans and their families."

Speaking to media in Delhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “it is a terrible tragedy and the aim is to divide the nation,” but “we are all standing together with our jawans.”

This is a terrible attack, this type of violence is disgusting. Terrorism tries to divide the nation, we can't be divided by any power. The entire opposition is with security forces and the government," he added.

“I am hurt”, said Rahul during the conference, refusing to answer contentious issues.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also addressed the media on Pulwama terror attack.

“Today is a day of mourning. Our country has lost close to 40 jawans and our foremost duty is to convey to the families of those who have lost their lives and those seriously injured that we are with them in condemning this act of terrorism,” said Manmohan Singh.

“We will not compromise with terrorists and whatever the country requires, we will act as one nation,” he added.

Asserting that “terrorism is a scourge which we can never compromise," Manmohan Singh said, “Congress party stands with the jawans and we will do all that is necessary to keep this country united.”
