Punjab: Ludhiana admin procures 7.06 Lakh metric ton wheat, Rs 914 Cr paid to farmers

During the ongoing Rabi season, the district administration has till now procured 706925 metric ton of wheat in the various grain markets of the district.

Elaborating upon the details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, while reviewing the procurement operations, said that during the ongoing Rabi season, 9 lakh metric ton wheat was expected in the district.

He said that the administration has procured 706925 metric ton of wheat in the various grain markets of the district till April 25. He told that 706925 metric ton wheat has arrived in the grain markets across the district and the entire stock has been purchased by the various agencies.

According to him 65 per cent of procured stock has also been lifted and is being expedited. Sharma further said that so far payment worth Rs 914 crore has been made to the farmers.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was firmly committed to procure and lift every single grain of farmers. He said that during the entire procurement season no farmer has claimed any sort of harassment or inconvenience in the grain markets.

Sharma asked the officers of procurement agencies to ensure that remaining grains were also procured in a smooth and hassle-free manner.
