Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at the Centre and in the states where people belonging to minority communities and the Dalits are being lynched by mobs and the police is either silent onlooker or worse, the part of the brutality.

"The brutal lynching of this young man by a mob in Jharkhand is a blot on humanity," Gandhi wrote on Twitter as he shared a picture of 22-year-old Tabrez Ansari who was brutally thrashed by a crowd after tying him to a pole in Dhatkidih village in Seraikela district of Jharkhand.

Gandhi added: "The cruelty of the police who held this dying boy in custody for four days is shocking as is the silence of powerful voices in the BJP ruled central and state governments."

Jharkhand is being ruled by the BJP at present.

Tabrez Ansari died at a hospital on Sunday, a week after he was beaten up the whole night. The incident came to light after a video of the incident had gone viral.

Ansari was also forced to chant slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Bajrang Bali' by his assaulters.

After beating him, the villagers handed him over to the police. Ansari's condition deteriorated while he was in the police custody. He was admitted to a hospital where he died on Sunday.

The Jharkhand police has arrested five persons in connection with the case.

This was the 14th such incident in the past one month.
