UP rape victim attacked with acid by accused

In another incident of crime against women, a woman was attacked with acid by four men in Uttar Pradesh Muzaffarnagar for refusing to withdraw her complaint of rape against them.

The 30-year-old woman suffered 30 per cent burns and is undergoing treatment at a Meerut hospital.

Circle Officer Girja Shanker Tripathi of Shahpur police station, said: "Four men barged into the woman's house on Wednesday night and poured acid on her as she had been refusing to withdraw her complaint of rape against them filed in a court here."

Tripathi said that the four men were absconding but would be arrested soon.

The woman had filed the complaint in the court instead of approaching the police because she had earlier lodged a complaint with the police but no action was taken.

The cops claimed that there was no evidence of rape and the case was closed.

Minor rape victim commits suicide in UP

A 16-year-old rape victim allegedly committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat after being threatened by the accused.

The incident took place on Friday night around the same time when the Unnao rape victim who had been set ablaze, died during treatement.

The family of the girl said that she would have been alive had police arrested her the accused as soon as the crime was reported.

"They have been roaming free in the village and threatened us. She was distressed because of this," said a member of her family.

The member said that she was found hanging and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

"The police did not make any arrests since the time the crime was reported until Saturday. She was distressed because the three accused were roaming freely in the village and had been threatening us with dire consequences. We sent her to her cousin's place a week ago.

"Everyday, over the phone she would ask only one question--has anyone been arrested? We always replied in negative. She would always disconnect her phone after our reply. She would be either silent or cry," the family member added.

The victim's family said that three men allegedly abducted and raped her on November 13. She returned home on November 17 and said that she had been gang raped.

She was produced before a Magistrate on November 22 where she identified the three accused who were booked for rape on December 2.

Superintendent of Police Anurag Vats said that one of the accused has been absconding while the two others were arrested on Saturday.

He did not respond to questions about the alleged inaction in the case.

Three-year-old raped in Unnao

Even as the death of the Unnao rape victim who was set ablaze by her accused has led to national outrage, another rape incident has taken place in the Uttar Pradesh district.

A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man from her neighbouring village on Friday.

The accused allegedly dragged the minor girl to nearby fields and raped her there. She was rescued by her uncle who heard her scream. He got hold of the accused and thrashed him.

The villagers, thereafter, informed the police, who took the rape survivor to a local hospital for medical examination. The accused man has been booked for rape and under the POCSO Act.

SHO Raj Bahadur said that the accused was in custody while the girl has been hospitalized.

Come after you get raped: Unnao cops tell woman

Despite the outrage over the death of the Unnao rape victim who was set ablaze by her accused, the police in the Uttar Pradesh district remain as callous as ever.

A woman in Hindupur village, the same place where the rape victim had been set on fire on Thursday, alleged on Saturday that the police had refused to file her complaint of attempted rape.

The police allegedly asked the woman to come with her complaint after the rape had taken place.

"Rape toh hua nahi, jab hoga tab aana (Rape has not happened, come when it happens)," is what a cop at the police station told the woman.

The woman, whose complaint has not been registered, said that three men from the village attempted to rape her some months ago when she was on her way to buy medicines.

"I was going to take my medicines. These three men stopped me and started pulling my clothes. They also attempted to rape me," she said.

She has also identified the accused.

When she approached the police with her complaint the cops threw her out and asked her to come after the rape has happened.

The woman said she has been visiting the police station for over three months but no one has heard her case.

"After the incident, I called 1090 (women help line) and they asked me to Dial 100 but they asked me to report the matter to Unnao police," she said.

She alleged that the three accused have been threatening to kill her as well.

"They come to my house everyday and threaten me with dire consequences if I file a complaint," the woman said.

Unnao has been at the centre of nationwide outrage after a rape victim was allegedly set on fire by the rape accused on Thursday morning. She was brought to Lucknow for treatment with over 90 per cent burns. The same evening, she was airlifted to Delhi for advanced treatment but on Friday night, she succumbed to the injuries.
