The selection panel led by PM Modi has selected on Saturday IPS Rishi Kumar Shukla as the new CBI director. Rishi Kumar Shukla is an officer of the 1984 batch and is former Director General of Police (DGP), Madhya Pradesh.

The Supreme Court had expressed its unhappiness over the delay on the government’s part in appointing the CBI chief. The appointment of M Nageswara Rao as the interim CBI chief was also challenged at the apex court as it was argued that his appointment was not based on the recommendations of the high-power selection panel.

IPS Rishi Kumar Shukla will take charge from the acting director M Nagheswara Rao who was appointed only last month after the then CBI director Alok Verma was sacked by the panel.

Rishi Kumar Shukla has been appointed the CBI director for a term of two years.
