Speaking on the occasion, former minister and senior leader Dr. Karan Singh said “Delhi is the heart of the country and the heart affects the whole body. It is very positive that Sheila Dikshit has accepted the challenge at this age because in my fifty years in Delhi I have not seen the kind of development that took place during Sheila Dikshit’s 15 year tenure.”

Meira Kumar, the first woman Lok Sabha Speaker narrated the story of Babu Kunwar Singh, “He (Babu Kunwar Singh) took the sword in his hands against the Britishers to fight for freedom. Today also the times are tough because the people in power, from Delhi to the Centre, are indulging in divisive politics and are not concerned about development. That’s why the country today needs the Congress”. She asked the Congress workers to march ahead and raise the flag of success everywhere.

Echoing Meira Kumar, the veteran Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi told the Congress workers “the challenge is big, and the big challenge demands the highest level of resolve and commitment to fight these force”.

Addressing the gathering, the outgoing DPCC President Ajay Maken said, “our identity is the ideology of Congress and we have to fight for this ideology”. Praising the work done by Sheila Dikshit during her 15 year regime, Ajay Maken said “under her leadership we brought about revolutionary changes in transport and the power sector. Now we have to strengthen her hand to win all the seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections to make Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister of the country”.

Thanking all the workers and Congress leaders Sheila Dikshit said, “only your presence here is not enough, we have to build the broken Congress (upasthiti kafi nahi hai humein tooti hui Congress ko jodna hai)”.

AICC General Secretary and in-charge of Delhi PC Chacko told the gathering that in his four year of tenure he has done every bid to remain the principal opposition party of Delhi despite not having any representation in the Delhi Assembly.

Former DPCC President Ajay Maken formally handed over the reins to Sheila Dikshit by proposing the resolution before the Congress workers, praising the the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s decision to appoint Sheila Dikshit as the President of DPCC with three working Presidents.
