BJP Chief Amit Shah is in the crosshairs for comparing political adversaries to animals like snakes, mangoose, dogs and cats during a public speech in Mumbai on April 6. “Yeh Modiji ki jo baadh aayi hai na baadh, iske dar se saamp, nevla, kutti, kutta, billi, sab ikattha ho kar chunav ladne ka kaam kar rahe hain (Fearing the Modi flood, the snake, mongoose, bitch, dog and cat are coming together to fight the polls),” Shah said while addressing a rally in Mumbai to mark the BJP's foundation day.

But before ‘Shikari Shah’ demonstrated his animal spirit, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his keynote address had already likened the Opposition to “wolves” who posed no challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While Shah is under scathing criticism for touching a new low in using unparliamentary language in political discourse, he also seems to have provided fresh fodder to political opponents and commentators by likening Prime Minister Modi to a deluge that destroys everything in its wake.

Hide! Shikari Shah on the loose. A six-column headline on front page lead story in Saturday edition of The Telegraph read.

“Well stated Amit Shah. The flood unleashed by Modi government has swept away integrity, unity, economy, foreign policy, security and grace of all the portfolios…But snakes and mongooses are still sitting alive on trees,” wrote noted creative writer Haider Rizvi on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma has described the remarks as “shameful” that speak of Shah’s mindset: “It is shameful. What else do we expect from them. It is in their DNA.”
