Six thrashed and forced to eat human excreta over suspicion of practicing witchcraft

Even in the 21st century, some parts of the country are fighting a war on witches. Six people were forced to eat human excreta and by a group of villagers in Gopalpur, Odisha. The villagers pulled out teeth of the suspects of practising witchcraft.

29 were arrested in the case, said Police.

The incident took place on Wednesday, where a mob attacked these six people and dragged them out of their houses. The villagers suspected that these people are practising witchcraft in the village. After the men were dragged out of their houses, they were forced to eat human excreta and their teeth were forcefully pulled out and brutally thrashed in public.


“We have registered three cases in this connection and 29 people have been arrested. Eight teeth of each person have been broken. We have increased the patrolling in the area to nab the remaining accused and avert any untoward incidents,” said Superintendent of Police Brijesh Rai.

The victims have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment. The victims have been identified as Jogi Das, Hari Nahak, Rama Nahak, Jogendra Nahak and Juria Nahak. The police has filed an FIR against the villagers who thrashed and assaulted the police when they tried to rescue the victims.
