Swedish royals visit Rishikesh

The royal couple participated in a traditional ceremony on the banks of the Ganges, and met experts on nature conservation and sustainable forest management

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Rishikesh on Thursday on the fourth day of their state visit to India. The royals paid a visit on the banks of River Ganga and also walked on the Ram Jhula bridge.

Sunita Narayan of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a non-government organization, briefed the King and Queen about various environmental issues related to river Ganges.

The royals also participated in a traditional ceremony on the banks of the river. Later, they also inaugurated a sewage treatment plant at Haridwar to clean river Ganga.

They also met experts on nature conservation and sustainable forest management before proceeding to the famous Jim Corbett park.
