The Union Government declared the Union Territory of Chandigarh as a coronavirus Hotspot on Wednesday.

Chandigarh has been included in the list of 170 Hotspots in the country, a senior official of the Chandigarh administration informed.

“Union Government has declared Chandigarh as a Hotspot district, as per laid down criteria of Health Ministry,” tweeted Manoj Parida, Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator. “Chandigarh is included in the list of 170 hotspot districts (red zone) in the country,” he said.


Senior functionaries of the UT Administration today briefed Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore about the decisions of Union Government declaring Chandigarh as a Hotspot district, which requires strict restrictions in the city.

The Administrator directed all officers to ensure that the instructions received from Central Government be strictly implemented and supervised. He further ordered "Total ban on spitting" in public places and directed Principal Secretary Home to issue necessary notification in this regard.

An official spokesperson of the administration informed that the Administrator was informed that as on date, 12 active Corona cases are under treatment in Chandigarh.

He directed all the three medical institutions to ensure that the safety of the doctors and health workers is given top priority. He suggested use of new technology for quick testing of cases as authorized by Indian Council of Medical Research. Deputy Commissioner, Mohali was directed to maintain strict containment norms in Jawaharnagar and Jagatpura.

Manoj Parida stated that as informed by Central Government, no relaxation in lockdown/curfew should be allowed till 20th April, 2020. The police has been requested to maintain the curfew strictly.
