The Special Investigation Team of the Uttar Pradesh Police (SIT) has begun investigating the Unnao rape case, and the custodial death of the rape victim’s father. The SIT team visited the victim's village on Wednesday and inquired about her and her family members. But their inquiries were only about the custodial death, and not about the gangrape.

The police have arrested Atul Sengar, the brother of the accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar. Cases were filed under IPC Sections 323 (causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult). Later, Section 302 for murder was added to his FIR.

The SIT team, led by the ADG of Lucknow Zone, Rajiv Krishna, stayed with the family for a long time. Later ADG Rajiv Krishna said, "We are investigating every aspect. By the evening, the interim report will be sent to the state government."

“The family will be provided full security. They have a relative in Delhi and now it is their decision if they want to live here in Unnao or in Delhi,“ added Rajeev Krishna.

The 18-year-old rape victim, however, said that in the name of security she has been held captive. The victim has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. The Unnao rape victim says she has been kept hidden away by the district administration in a hotel room ever since last rites of her father were conducted, where she was not allowed to meet anyone.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, former Congress MP Annu Tandon met and consoled the victim's family. He said that the law and order system in Uttar Pradesh has completely broken down. He demanded a fair investigation into the case.

The Allahabad High Court has taken cognizance of the incident. The court has decided to adjudicate the case on April 12.

The rape victim tried to commit suicide on Sunday, outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, when her pleas for justice fell on deaf ears. She alleged that BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and his companions raped her. Her father was arrested on Sunday and later admitted to the district hospital after he vomited and complained of abdominal pains. The post-mortem report revealed that girl’s father had suffered at least 14 grievous internal organ injuries, which led to septicaemia or blood poisoning.

The middle-aged man was brutally thrashed by MLA’s brother and his henchmen last week. But instead of providing him medical assistance, police arrested him and placed in custody on a complaint by his daughter's alleged rapists. Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law & Order) Anand Kumar had said that the post-mortem report states that the man’s intestine had ruptured and that resulted into blood poisoning, which led to his death.
