As directed by the Indian National Congress party’s national general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to help people during the lockdown, the Uttar Pradesh Congress leadership has asked the Yogi Adityanath government to allow Congress workers to serve the people by providing relief to them during this period.

UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu has written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, March 27, asking him to shelve political differences and allow the Congress to join hands with the government and other organisations to serve the citizens of the state.

"The people need help. At this time, the Chief Minister should show a big heart and give exemption to Congress workers to go to people and serve them amid this crisis," Lallu said.

He said that thousands of Congress workers spread across the state are ready to serve the people and were awaiting permission from the state government. "In such a national disaster like situation in the country, the government should ask the Opposition parties to join them in helping out the people in the relief work," Lallu told this reporter.

The UP Congress’ move came after party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked the party’s UP unit to launch a Corona task force. She called up UP Congress leaders and asked them to go to the people and provide relief to them as they were in distress.

At present, 15 NGOs are working with the state government and helping government officials in running community kitchens or in door-to-door delivery of goods.
