The state working committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh ended on Monday night with a resolve to move ahead on poll planks centered around Ram Mandir and Uniform Civil Code. Vikas or Development is no longer the main focus, indicating the party's nervousness and lack of confidence in contesting on its record of governance. In the day long deliberation, speakers called upon party workers to carry the party's message on Uniform Civil Code and the Ram Mandir down to the village level.

“We promised construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of the temple last year. It is a coincidence that when the (Babri) Mosque was demolished BJP was in power and when construction of the temple started, BJP is again in power in Uttar Pradesh," Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said while inaugurating the one –day summit.

“BJP increased its base through Ram Janmabhoomi agitation and since then it is growing in stature," said Singh, who is also a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. He hinted that the party could bring Uniform Civil Code – another contentious issue which can ignite communal cauldron.

The state working committee declared that from March 19 to 26 party workers, law makers and senior leaders will go to villages and tell people about the achievements of the Yogi government, which will complete four years in office on March 19.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went a step ahead and asked the Bharatiya Janata Party workers to be vocal about Ram Temple and Hindutava. “Do not be tongue tied. If the opposition say something about Hindutva give them a befitting reply. Counter them with facts and figures,” he said. The hall reverberated with repeated slogans of Jai Sri Ram.

"This is our war cry. Give a good shout so that your voice reaches Bengal," BJP State President Swatantra Dev Singh said after his address.

The hall reverberated with a louder shout of Jai Sri Ram.

“Remember this is an election year. BJP has nothing to deliver. It has failed on all fronts and therefore it is only talking about Ram Mandir and Hindu Khatre me hain,” Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said.

This state working committee meeting was important because it was being held after a two-year gap. The last meeting was held at Meerut in 2018. Last year no meeting could take place because of covid.
